The spirit of religion is one of the most powerful and dangerous spirits. It is the one that crucified our Christ. It is very insidious and does not come into direct opposition to God. It is not trying to deny Him, but to replace Him. It does not come through the world, but through the church of God itself. That is why Christ fought it with such vigor.
"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for you neither go in yourselves, neither suffer you them that are entering to go in." Matt. 23:13
