What is a christian?

What is a christian?
BY Argie Simonis

What is a christian? There is a lot of confusion in this. Many people have various ideas but the Word of God reveals us the truth.
Jesus came and brought salvation to us and this is the foundation of everything else.

People pray when they are in trouble, but you need to understand the right way to approach God. Jesus is the only way to the Father, and if you don't have a personal relationship with Jesus, if you have not been born again and not been changed on the inside, your prayers are of no effect. It wouldn't surprise me if a 60% of the people claiming to be christians are not trully born-again. They don't have a relationship with God.

People assume they have a relationship with God just because they believe that there is a God, but according to James 2:19 "You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble."
That's one of the most sarcastic statements in the Bible!
Just acknowledging that there is a God, you haven't done something more than the devil has done! There must be something more than an acknowlegment of a God, or "higher power" or "supreme being" in order to get saved. There must be a commitment of your life to Jesus.

Every relegion acknowledges Jesus. He is the most central figure in the history of the entire human race! That's why we date with B.C "Before Christ" and A.D "Anno Domini". According to Wikipedia the term Anno Domini is Medieval Latin, translated as "In the year of the Lord", and as "in the year of Our Lord". It is sometimes specified more fully as Anno Domini Nostri Iesu (Jesu) Christi "In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ".

For muslims Jesus was a great prophet.
For the new age movement Jesus was a great example of love and spoke about things to do to others as you would have them do unto you.
They all aknowledge Him historically as a  good person, but not as God. If He was not God He couldn't have paid for all our sins, He could not have been our savior and He would have been a liar because He said:

- "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)
- "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)
- "That all men should honor the Son, EVEN as they honor the Father.  He that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him. (John 5:23)
- "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (1Timothy 3:16)
- "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." (Matthew 1:23)
- "Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God." (John 5:18)

People claim that there is a God but there are many paths to God. So, there are 2 options: Either Jesus missed it, or they missed it.
In Luke 23:40-43 we see the thief on the cross didn't have time to get baptized or get other things done. He just repended, asked for forgiveness, received the Lord's mercy and that's it! He got saved! It is simple and it is a commitment.

So in order to answer my first question, "christian" means a Christ follower, and that takes commitment. This post is a prologue of what is to come. In my next posts I will be dealing with some basic principles and truths such as eternal life, being born-again, the baptism of the Holy Spirit and operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and especially the gift of speaking in tongues. I encourage you to follow this teaching because it will help you to overcome your reasoning that creates doubt and unbelief. I pray that this will create a biger desire in your heart to read the Bible with new eyes of understanding and get revelation that will totally change you and enable you to walk in the calling that God has for your life.
Amen!
