What is Truth?

 BY Argie Simonis

What is  truth after all? Is there only one truth or is the truth different for everyone, depending on how someone perceives it?

You know, truth is not an abstract concept. Truth is a person and has a name:

"Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." John 14:6

Jesus did not say, "I am a way, a truth, and a life." He stated that He was the only way, Truth and Life. This means that there are not many paths to God. Some people play with words and claim that Jesus is the only way to the Father, but there are many "ways" you can come to Jesus. Philip, who had the question of meeting the Father, received his answer:

"Philip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it suffises us. Jesus said to him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how say you then, Show us the Father?" John 14:8-9

Christianity is not just another religion. It is our relationship with the living God and the only method of salvation God has offered us:

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12

Jesus' claims about Himself left no room for other means of salvation. Either he was the One who said he was or He was the greatest fraud of all time.

We are living in the last days. Philosophies and worldviews through the media are spreading at record speeds! But the Lord warns us:

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Col. 2:8

And something else very important. As we walk towards the end, the gray scale will disappear. There will be only white and black. Hot or cold. This is what the Spirit says in the Church of Laodicea:

"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot: I would you were cold or hot. So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth." Rev. 3:15-16

You are called to make the most important decision of your life. Your days on earth are numbered. At some point your physical body will end up in the grave and become dust. But your soul and your spirit are eternal. It's up to you where you will spend this eternity:

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live:" Deut. 30:19

"For whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
