The Baptism in the Holy Spirit and Our Relationship with Him.

  BY Argie Simonis

The Holy Spirit is a person, not just an vague force. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Paraclete (Helper) and presents Him with personality traits: He has a mind, a will, and emotions. Thus, the believer can develop a living and personal relationship with Him.

---------------------

The Bible mentions three different baptisms:

- The Holy Spirit baptizes a person into the Body of Christ (salvation).

- The disciples baptize in water (public confession of faith).

- Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire, bringing power, gifts, and the presence of God.

Salvation is the first step and is given by grace, through faith. Baptism in water symbolizes the death of our old self and our resurrection to our new life. The baptism in the Holy Spirit gives us supernatural power to live our Christian lives and bear witness to the rest of the world.

Examples from the Acts of the Apostles show that believers were first saved, then baptized in water, and then received the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is not just a gift (e.g., tongues or prophecy), but the Spirit Himself who dwells and works within us.

The Old Testament provides 3 models of baptism: Moses (Christ), the sea (baptism in water), and the cloud (Holy Spirit). In the Temple, the sacrifice, the washing, and the anointing with oil foreshadowed these three stages.

God’s ultimate goal is a deep and personal relationship with man. The Holy Spirit is not just a theory, but the experience of a personal relationship with Him that transforms our lives.

*** In the same way that the believer receives salvation by faith, so he receives the baptism in the Holy Spirit. ***

👉 Conclusion: The blood (salvation), the water (baptism) and the Spirit (filling) are the three basic foundations of our Christian life, which lead us to a full, dynamic and fruitful relationship with God.
