In this message, we examine the deeper purpose of a believer’s life, through biblical examples and personal experiences. The apostle Paul states
" Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God," (Romans 1:1)
Thus, every Christian is called to:
- live as a servant and minister of Christ,
- recognize his special calling,
and
- understand that the ultimate purpose is the gospel and a relationship with God.
Our purpose does not change, even though the phases of our lives, our work, or our careers may change.
Our purpose does not depend on positions or careers, but on God who is the true provider. Examples such as David, Joseph, and Absalom show the importance of trusting in the Lord.
The believer’s pursuit is to serve God’s will, avoiding inaction, apathy, and turning away from God, as happened to David with Bathsheba. Prayer and a close relationship with God bring to light the next step in our lives.
The basic point of the message is that our goals may change, but our purpose remains constant: to live in Christ and serve His calling:
" Brothers, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before," (Philipians 3:13)
" I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." (Philipians 3:14)
Amen!
