Our Commitment to God's Calling.

 BY Argie Simonis

God’s calling on our life does not exclusively mean full-time ministry. God calls ordinary, everyday people—like Abraham, Isaac, Gideon, Rahab, Matthew, or Paul—through the circumstances of their daily lives. What He seeks is our commitment and availability.

The first step in discovering one’s calling is to draw near to God. Whatever we carry—weaknesses, sorrow, sins, failures—the Lord calls us to come close to Him with confidence. He does not reject anyone who approaches Him.

Next, we are called to discover and grow in the gifts He has given us. Just as a child learns to balance on their first bicycle, we too practice and grow in our spiritual gifts, with the guidance of God’s Word.

Finally, we must take action. We begin humbly—perhaps with something small, like Elisha who started by serving the prophet Elijah (by washing his hands). Or the apostle Paul, whose first mission was to deliver money with Barnabas from one city to another.

God blesses and multiplies the small beginning. Do not despise the day of small things. What matters is doing something—taking the first step.

-- So draw near to God,
-- Discover your gifts,
-- Do something.

As Paul says:

"I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:14)

Amen!
